BHS soccer teams earn victories over Mules

Boerne High had a couple of big soccer matches against Alamo Heights Tuesday and the Greyhounds came out on top in both contests.

The BHS boys were on the road and secured second place in 26-5A with their win, while the Lady Hounds stayed in the thick of the district race after edging the Lady Mules.

BHS was off Friday and resume 26-5A action Tuesday against Pieper.

Boerne High defeated Alamo Heights, 3-2, Tuesday and is locked into second place in 26-5A regardless of what happens in their last two matches.

They’ll host Pieper Tuesday but at 14-0 heading into Friday, the Warriors have wrapped up the district title and can’t be caught by BHS.

The Boerne boys are 11-2-1 in district and 13-3-1 overall. New Braunfels is 3rd in the district and stands at 7-4-2 and can’t catch the Greyhounds at this point for second.

Felix Theiss, JP Santa Maria and Shae Gonzales tallied the three Boerne goals to help head coach Michael Strong defeat his alma mater.

Boerne’s 1-0 win over Alamo Heights kept the Lady Hounds ahead of the Lady Mules in the 26-5A standings.

BHS is 9-4-1 in district (14-6-1 overall) and has 28 points, while the Lady Mules are 8-5 and have 24 points based on the formula that a win in 26-5A is worth 3 points and a tie is valued at 1 point.

With two matches left, Boerne coach Jeremy Shannon said a lot can still happen in the standings and added that the final playoff spots up for grabs might not be wrapped up until the final match of the regular season.

Against the Mules on Tuesday, Boerne’s Emma Edison finished on a corner kick from Mahaley Merkens for the only goal of the match.
