Rangers hold Chargers scoreless Tuesday night

The Boerne Champion baseball team couldn’t find its offense Tuesday night when the Chargers visited Smithson Valley for their second district meeting.

In their first 26-5A contest with the Rangers, Champion won, 7-5, but the Rangers were able to split their season series after Smithson Valley took Tuesday’s contest, 8-0.

Champion was held without a hit but Aidan Smith, Sawyer Smith, Jaedyn Yamaguchi and Cal Isley all took walks to account for all of Champion’s base runners.

The Rangers knocked out 7 hits and scored 2 runs in the first for the quick lead. In the third, a triple from Aiden Verette and a home run from Cooper Gibson helped Smithson Valley score 3 more runs for the 5-0 advantage. They tacked on 3 more runs in the fifth to get their 8 runs.

Sawyer Smith, Jackson Melanson, Ethan Coleman and AJ Grizzaffi all tossed in the game for the Chargers, with Smith going the longest at 3 innings.
