The Boerne Champion baseball team couldn’t find its offense Tuesday night when the Chargers visited Smithson Valley for their second district meeting.
In their first 26-5A contest with the Rangers, Champion won, 7-5, but the Rangers were able to split their season series after Smithson Valley took Tuesday’s contest, 8-0.
Champion is 2-1 in district and 5-3 overall. The Chargers are entered in the Leander tourney this weekend.
Champion was held without a hit but Aidan Smith, Sawyer Smith, Jaedyn Yamaguchi and Cal Isley all took walks to account for all of Champion’s base runners.
The Rangers knocked out 7 hits and scored 2 runs in the first for the quick lead. In the third, a triple from Aiden Verette and a home run from Cooper Gibson helped Smithson Valley score 3 more runs for the 5-0 advantage. They tacked on 3 more runs in the fifth to get their 8 runs.
Sawyer Smith, Jackson Melanson, Ethan Coleman and AJ Grizzaffi all tossed in the game for the Chargers, with Smith going the longest at 3 innings.
Luke Williams picked up the win for the Rangers in 6 innings of work on the bump and struck out 6 batters against 4 walks.
