St. Francis Episcopal School from Houston showed they were as good as their lofty No. 1 ranking at last weekend’s TAPPS boys 4A state basketball tournament.

The Wolves defeated Geneva School of Boerne in their state semifinals game on Thursday by 40 points and then went on to claim the state title the next day by 19 points against Lubbock Christian (55-36) in Waco.

St. Francis Episcopal ended Geneva’s season on Thursday and handed the Eagles their biggest loss of the year, 73-33.

The Wolves dominated Thursday’s contest, and the game went to a running clock in the fourth quarter.

St. Francis Episcopal took control right away and was up by 21 points at halftime, 34-13.

In the third quarter, the Wolves outscored the Eagles 21-8 and bumped the lead to 55-21.

Even with a running clock at some point in the fourth quarter, St. Francis Episcopal netted 18, while Geneva dropped in a dozen.

Geneva’s Wyatt Bruss led the way for the Eagles and finished with almost half of their points after the senior tallied 15. Jake Roberson scored 8, Colton Lutz added 7 and Reid Aderholt finished with 3 to round out the scoring.

Geneva ends its season at 31-6 and they return to Boerne with state bronze medals. The Eagles were playing at the TAPPS state tourney for the first time in more than a decade.
