The Boerne High softball team closed out a tough week with a road loss at Smithson Valley last Friday.
After being no-hit by Veterans Memorial on Tuesday, the Lady Greyhounds were defeated by the Lady Rangers, 17-2.
Boerne High is 5-3 overall and 1-3 in district and has dropped three straight in 26-5A after winning their opener.
The Lady Greyhounds hosted Boerne Champion on Tuesday in their first meeting. The Chargers will host their second-round meeting on April 4.
In last Friday’s game, BHS was down 13-0 after three innings after giving up 5, 1 and 7 runs in those three frames.
The Greyhounds finally got on the board in the top of the fourth by plating 2 runs on 4 base knocks. Before that, Boerne had been held without a hit.
In the top of the fourth, Boerne loaded the bases with three straight singles by Ava Renteria, Cerissa Nasis and Brooklynn Thomason with no outs.
The next Boerne batter was retired with a strikeout, but Riley Partin came up to the plate and doubled to score Renteria and Nasis.
BHS still had two runners on base but Rangers pitcher Arianna Capek fanned the next two Greyhounds to retire the side.
From there, the Lady Rangers answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the fourth frame to kick in the mercy rule.
Partin had the 2-RBI double, while Renteria, Nasis and Thomason all singled with Renteria and Nasis scoring their two runs.
Jesseanna Aguirre pitched for BHS and went the distance in the circle. She gave up 14 hits, walked 6 and struck out 4.
Capek picked up the win for the Rangers and struck out 9 batters.
