Greyhounds finish as co-champs at San Antonio Baseball Classic tourney

Boerne High posted a 5-0 record at the San Antonio Baseball Classic tourney after they ran the table and beat all five teams they faced to finish as co-champs.

The top four teams at the tourney went into the championship bracket and it was Boerne High and New Braunfels that made it to the finals.

Since they are in the same district, the two teams agreed to not play since they’ll see each other soon enough.

Boerne’s five wins at the tourney bumps their record to 6-1 overall. The Greyhounds were home Tuesday to host Kerrville Tivy and will play in the San Marcos tournament this weekend.

BHS opened with an 8-6 win over Socorro on Thursday and used the long ball to get the win.

Hudson McNew hit 2 home runs, Brooks Perez added another homer, while Dylan Perez tripled and Ronnie Scarbrough doubled for the Greyhounds team that finished with 12 hits in the game.

With Boerne trailing 6-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, Brooks Perez hit a solo shot to tie it. Dylan Perez singled and then McNew ended it with a 2-run blast to center field.

McNew finished with 4 RBI, Dylan Perez added 2 singles to his triple and Brooks Perez added a single to his homer and scored a run.

Caden Guerrero, Brandon Browning and Eli Srp all tossed in the game, with Srp getting the win after the Hounds scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh to win it. The trio combined for 6 strikeouts.

Up next, Boerne defeated Pioneer 7-3 and took control early with 6 runs in its first two at bats.

Reese House doubled, picked up an RBI and scored 3 runs, Dylan Perez knocked out 2 singles, pushed in a run and scored, while Jake Perez hit 2 singles and collected 2 RBI.

Braden Ramirez tossed 3 innings and picked up the win on 59 pitches. He fanned 2 and didn’t give up a hit.

Kepa Kanae and Asher Wren both threw in the game with Wren striking out 3 batters.

On Friday, Boerne battered the Rams from Del Rio, 12-2 and scored 4, 5 and 3 runs from the second through the fourth frames after falling behind 2-0 in the first.

Hudson McNew and Ronnie Scarbrough both doubled. Scarbrough also singled and pushed in a run, while McNew added a single to his double and scored 2 runs.

Ryan Hooper singled and scored twice, Jackson Grimes hit 2 singles, picked up 3 RBI and scored 3 runs, Walker Hill singled, scored and collected a couple of RBI, while Jake Perez singled, had an RBI and crossed home plate 3 times.

Dylan Perez threw for 2 innings, while Eli Srp tossed 3 innings to get the win after he yielded 2 hits, no runs and fanned 4.

On Friday night, the Boerne bats had another big day after Hudson McNew hit another home run to go with a double and finished with 4 RBI.

Brooks Perez tripled, doubled and singled and scored 3 runs.

Jackson Grimes, Campbell Jackson, McNew and Braden Ramirez all saw time on the hill with Jackson recording the win and McNew earning the save.

The Greyhounds closed it out on Saturday with an 11-5 win over Round Rock after they scored 7 of their runs in the first inning.

BHS finished with 10 hits and Brooks Perez had another big day after he hit a home run and doubled, scored 3 runs and picked up an RBI.

Dylan Perez doubled, pushed in a run and scored, Reese House doubled, collected 4 RBI, took 3 walks and plated 2 runs, while Ryan Hooper hit 2 singles and knocked in 3 runs.

Braden Ramirez picked up the win from the bump, while Asher Wren, Brandon Browning and Kepa Kanae all pitched in the game.
