Canyon Lake overcame the Boerne High baseball team last Thursday and handed the Greyhounds its first district loss this season.
BHS was winning 4-1 but the Hawks scored 4 runs in its last two at bats and went on to defeat the Greyhounds, 5-4.
It’s only Boerne’s third loss of the season and first in 28-4A. They are 23-3 overall and 5-1 in district. The Hounds visit Fredericksburg Tuesday to start their series with the Billies. BHS hosts Fred on Friday.
Boerne struck first with 2 runs in the first inning, the first run coming on a Cam Johnson RBI double.
The Hawks answered with a run in the third, but the Hounds fired back with 2 runs in the fourth on a Kalob Sanchez 2 RBI single and Boerne was leading 4-1.
Canyon Lake cut into the lead in the fifth with a solo homer and another run and it was 4-3. In the sixth, the Hawks tied it and then took the lead to pull ahead, 5-4.
Boerne put its first runner on in the seventh but the Hawks retired the next three batters to end the game.
Johnson added a single to his RBI double and scored once; Sanchez finished with his 2 RBI single; Rashawn Galloway singled and scored; Andrew Poole singled; Tyler Garritano hit 2 singles and scored; Xander Cloudy took 3 walks and Jaxon Baize scored once.
Four different Hounds pitched with Andrew Poole starting and going 4 innings. Garritano, Landon Lestourgeon and Sanchez all tossed in the game as well.
