After years of dedicated service to the Boerne Police Department and the community, K-9 Emma, a Belgian Malinois, has officially retired.

The Boerne City Council recognized Emma’s service during its meeting Tuesday evening. With her retirement, Emma will now enjoy a well-earned rest with her handler, detective Brandon Goudreau.

“With her keen instincts, dedication and unwavering service, Emma has been an exceptional partner to our department,” Boerne Police Chief Steve Perez said.

“Her contributions have left a lasting impact on our community, and we are grateful for the years of hard work she has put in to keep Boerne safe,” Perez added.

Emma was born in Czechoslovakia on Dec. 10, 2018, and underwent specialized training at an early age, earning certifications in narcotics detection, tracking and criminal apprehension. She joined the Boerne Police Department in April 2019 and quickly put her skills to work.

Throughout her career, Emma participated in 172 deployments, leading to seven patrol apprehensions and 125 narcotics-related arrests. Her efforts resulted in the seizure of 123.9 kilos of marijuana/THC, 2 kilos of methamphetamine, 6 kilos of cocaine, and $184,143 in U.S. currency.

Beyond her enforcement duties, Emma was a familiar presence at community events, including National Night Out, Boerne ISD school functions, and public demonstrations.

Her interactions with residents, especially children, helped foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.
