Champion picked up a key district win last Thursday after the Chargers softball team defeated Seguin at home thanks to a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
Thursday’s contest was tied at 3-3 and Champion’s Krista Tarver hit a bases-loaded single in the seventh to bring in the winning run and end the game.
It was a big victory for the Chargers because they are battling with the Matadors for a playoff spot and have now split the season series with them.
Champion improves to 13-8-1 overall and 9-5 in district. They’ll visit Tivy on Tuesday and host Johnson on Friday to close out the regular season.
Even though it was a close game, Champion outhit Seguin, 14-7.
Ashley Ottmers continues to swing the bat well and hit a triple, a double and 2 singles, while she scored twice and drove in a run.
Riley Murrish hit 2 singles and drove in a run; Gabi Vela and Tarver both hit RBI singles; Ava Trevino hit 2 singles; Lily Ritchie singled; Madison Hall singled and scored, while Jaycee Bendele hit 2 singles and scored a run.
Carmen Vela went the distance in the circle and threw 124 pitches. She gave up 7 hits, 3 runs, walked 2 and struck out 10 to get the win.
