TMI beats Bobcats with walk-off single

The Comfort baseball team dropped its first game of the season Tuesday after TMI – Episcopal edged the Bobcats with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to record the 6-5 victory.

Comfort is 3-1 overall and played in the Sonora Tournament this weekend.

In Tuesday’s contest, the Bobcats were trailing 4-1 going into the sixth frame but pushed in 4 runs in the top of the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

Comfort banged out three doubles in that sixth inning and used two walks and a hit batter to help them score its 4 runs and pull ahead.

It stayed at 5-4 until the bottom of the seventh when the Panthers made their move.

Two walks and an error to start the inning loaded the bases for TMI with no outs. The next Panthers batter, Brock Grullon, hit a sac fly to right to tie it up at 5-5 with one out.

With an empty base, Comfort coach Bryan Bishop had his pitcher intentionally walk the next batter to load the bases and put the double- play ball into effect.

It didn’t matter though after TMI’s Diego Fernandez delivered the game-winning hit with a single up the middle to bring in the runner from third to end it.

Comfort outhit the Panthers, 8-5, but still lost.

Cade Woerner, Dax Stehling and Noah Bohnert all doubled for the Cats, while Woerner also took 3 walks and scored once and Stehling drove in 3 runs and scored a run.

Brooks Davis singled, Gunner Carpenter hit 2 singles and scored twice, Tucker Rust singled and Mason Matt singled and scored.

Rust went 3.2 innings on the hill, Zach Jones tossed 2.1 frames and Carpenter recorded an out in the seventh.

Rust gave up a hit, 2 runs and struck out 3, while Jones yielded 3 hits and 2 earned runs.
