Drug possession nets man 25 years behind bars

A Houston motorist charged with transporting narcotics accepted a plea deal in a Kendall County district court that carries a 25-year prison sentence.

Terrence Dejuan Carroll, 46, was arrested in June 2024 on multiple drug possession and tampering with evidence charges following a traffic stop, according to the case that went before 451st state District Judge Kirsten Cohoon Feb. 14.

The incident that led to the courthouse originally unfolded when a Department of Public Safety trooper pulled over a Chrysler 300 sedan for driving without a front license plate in the Comfort area.

The driver had an open beer can in the vehicle and admitted to having additional beers inside, according to court records.

The motorist initially refused to cooperate when asked to get out of the vehicle, according to reports. In addition, the trooper smelled marijuana, records reflect. Although the driver denied using marijuana, his anxious behavior raised the trooper’s suspicions, and a K9 unit from Fair Oaks Ranch was summoned.

Law officers said they found a bag on the ground containing suspected methamphetamine, located near the area where the driver had been standing and walking. Security footage from a nearby gas station showed the man discarding the bag while ambling toward a different area of the parking lot.

The police dog then detected narcotics inside the vehicle. During a search, the trooper discovered multiple drug-related items, including digital and pocket scales, bags and additional narcotics.

Carroll was charged with possession, with intent to deliver, 1- 4 grams of methamphetamine, as well as tampering with evidence after discarding the bag, which contained 2.35 grams of methamphetamine.

A review of Carroll’s criminal history revealed he had previously been to prison for possession charges, assault on a public servant and being a felon in possession of a firearm, officials said.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Derly Chapa.
