SEVERAL HEADED TO STATE

CHARGERS, GREYHOUNDS COMPETE AT REGIONAL SWIM/DIVE MEET,

SAN ANTONIO – Boerne Champion and Boerne High competed at the Region VII-5A swim meet recently and advanced several swimmers to this weekend’s state competition in Austin.

The Champion girls won the Region VII-5A title with 377 points, while the Lady Greyhounds were ninth with 120.5 points.

The Champion boys finished second with 310 points behind Austin Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA), which scored 429 points, while the Boerne boys were 11th with 74 points.

The Chargers broke nine pool records at the event.

The top two finishers in each event from the eight regions automatically make it to state and there are also eight wildcard spots up for grabs that go to the next fastest eight swimmers regardless of region.

Both the Chargers and Greyhounds had swimmers that were called up as wildcards based on their times and will be headed to state.

The 5A state swim and dive meet is this Friday and Saturday in Austin at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin. Finals are Saturday, 4 p.m.

REGIONAL RESULTS Boerne High The Boerne girls 200-medley relay finished 6th with a 1:56, Lauren Summers finished 5th in the girls 50 free with a time of 25.55 and Brinley Robinson was 12th for BHS with a 27.01.

Cooper Wagner qualified for state after he finished second in the boys 50 free after posting a 20.79, while Sarah Heilesen finished 12th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04 to earn 5 points.

Cooper Wagner also advanced to state in the boys 100 freestyle after he was second with a time of 45.41 and Cole Grotjohn finished 16th for a team point with a time of 54.64.

Karen Gray and Sadie Smurr both competed in the B or consolations finals where Gray placed 11th with a 5:49 and Smurr was 16th overall after posting a 6:22.

The girls 200-free relay finished 8th with a time of 149.46 for 22 team points, while the Boerne boys team also placed 8th with a 1:36.

Brinley Robinson competed in the girls 100-yard backstroke where she came in 11th with a 1:06.80.

Lauren Summers finished 5th in the girls 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.80 and qualified for state as a wildcard, while Cole Grotjohn came in 4th in the boys 100 breaststroke after he posted a 1:00.82. The girls 400-free relay came in 8th with a time of 4:03 and the boys 400 relay finished 16th in 4:12.

The girls 200-medley relay of Karly Whitehead, Kate Canales, Cameron Kellogg and Cora Skoog took 1st with a 1:44.54.

Whitehead placed 3rd in the 200 free with a 1:56.21 and Madie Neuman was 7th in 2:03 and Addison Homann came in 15h at 2:08 to earn points.

Bexon Harrison won the 200 free after clocking in at 1:36, Carson Muenchow took 1st in the consolation finals and was 9th overall with a 1:51 and Nash Belson came in 15th at 2:01.

Addison Graham and Cameron Kellogg went 2-3 in the 200-Individual Medley with times of 2:06 and 2:07 and Ava Story came in 16th to earn a point with a 2:59, while Sarp Peterson was 16th with a 2:28 to also earn a point.

Cora Skoog won the 50 free after clocking in at 23.74 and Meghan Jackson was 4th in 25.53.

Will Harrison took 1st in the boys 50 free with a time of 20.56, Will Tolar placed 4th in 21.18, EJ Altermatt came in 8th for 11 points after posting a 22.54 and Julius Hoxhaj finished 13th in 23.42.

Jada Green punched her ticket to state in 1-meter diving with 384.90 points for third and Gavin Richmond was also third in the boys 1-meter diving with 242.30 points.

Kate Canales won the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.52 and Cameron Kellogg placed 5th in 58.57.

In the boys 100 fly, Will Harrison advanced to state after he was second with a 50.61, while EJ Altermatt placed 8th with a 55.55 and Nash Belson completed the course in 1:00 for 14th and 3 team points.

Cora Skoog won the 100 free with a time of 51.66 and Meghan Jackson was 7th after clocking in at 56.37 and Cayden VanDyne came in 12th with a 59.25.

Bexon Harrison won the boys 100 free after touching the wall in 44.48 and Will Tolar was 5th in 47.58.

Addison Graham finished 2nd in the girls 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.21 and Breanna Hempton came in 15th in 6:09.

Owen Altermatt won the boys 500 freestyle with a time of 4:53, Carson Muenchow took 3rd with a 4:56, Aiden Carney came in 12th after finishing in 5:21 and Baylor Slay placed 14th in 5:41.

Meghan Jackson, Madi Neuman, Addison Graham, Cayden Van Dyne teamed up for 3rd in the girls 200-freestyle relay and qualified for state as a wildcard after they posted a 1:42, and in the boys 200-free relay, Will Tolar, EJ Altermatt, Will Harrison and Bexon Harrison teamed up for 1st with a time of 1:23.

Karly Whitehead won the girls 100 back after she clocked in at 56.66 and Addison Homann came in 15th in 1:10.

Luke Bove turned in a 58.12 in the 100 back to place 9th or first in the B consolation finals after he posted a 58.12 for 9 points and Sarp Peterson was 16th to earn a point with a time of 1:05.

Kate Canales won the 100yard breaststroke after she touched the wall in 1:01, Madi Neuman was 7th in 1:09 and in the boys 100 breaststroke and Owen Altermatt came in 6th in 1:02.

Both Charger squads won the 400-free relay after the team of Cora Skoog, Karly Whitehead, Cameron Kellogg and Kate Canales turned in a time of 3:30, while the boys team of Will Harrison, Will Tolar, Owen Altermatt and Bexon Harrison combined for 1st with a 3:07.99.
