In the end, it all came down to the math to decide this year’s boys basketball league champion in TAPPS 4A – District 5.
Geneva School of Boerne was 11-0 in district heading into Monday’s contest at Holy Cross, while the Knights were second at 10-1, after Geneva handed them their only loss in their first-round meeting.
A Geneva win Monday would have given the Eagles a perfect 12-0 mark but the Knights pulled off the 46-37 victory to leave the teams tied at 11-1.
According to the TAPPS 4A – District 5 tiebreaker rules, it comes down to point differential if the two teams split their two games each other and are tied.

contest by 9 points, so that gives the Eagles this year’s title by 7 points.
Geneva coach Julius McNeal said they would have rather won it outright, but added that it goes down in the books as a district championship.
“We wanted to come in and win the game, we didn’t want to leave it up to the numbers, but Holy Cross did a great job limiting our possessions and using the clock against us,” he said. “I’m proud of what we have accomplished so far. Winning district was our first goal and with that chapter completed, we can move on to our next goal, which is winning our Area round playoff game.”
Geneva hosts its opening- round playoff game Tuesday in Boerne. The Eagles welcome Houston Westbury Christian, 7:15 p.m., or immediately after the girls game.
In Tuesday’s contest at Holy Cross, Wyatt Bruss finished with 21 points to lead Geneva, Jake Roberson added 11 and Colton Lutz netted 5.
The Eagles are 29-5 overall and end district at 11-1.
