At the recent UIL Spirit State Championships held Jan. 17 -18 in Fort Worth, the Boerne High cheer program competed against teams from around the state of Texas in three categories: crowd leading, fight song, and band chant.

The traditional gameday role cheerleaders have on the sidelines and in schools supporting athletic teams was instrumental in their performance.

As a first time 5A, Division 2 squad, the cheerleaders earned 12th place in a competitive division of 74 teams.

This is the third year in a row that Boerne High Cheer has made the finals. Coach Kimberly Skok stated, “Competing in 5A-D2 for the first time, we not only reached the finals, but also secured an impressive 12th place finish out of 74 teams. Knowing the competition would be tougher, we came to the competition with a clear goal: to make a statement. Reaching the finals absolutely shows we belong among the elite in this challenging division.”
