Both Boerne High soccer squads were in action Tuesday as they concluded the first round of 26-5A play with matches against New Braunfels.
While the Lady Greyhounds won a tight one with the Lady Unicorns, the Boerne boys blew out NB.
Boerne High opens the second round of league play Friday against Wagner. The BHS boys were home and the girls were on the road.
After that, the Greyhounds tangle with Tivy on Tuesday.
Varsity Girls
The Boerne girls have proven to be streaky in 26-5A, winning their first three in district, dropping three in a row after that, followed by closing out the first round of district with a pair of 1-0 wins.
After beating Pieper last Friday 1-0, the Lady Greyhounds also defeated New Braunfels by the same score on Tuesday, 1-0.
BHS is 10- 5 overall and 5-3 in district. They are tied for fourth with Alamo Heights at 5-3, although the Mules have the tiebreaker since they defeated the Lady Hounds in the first round.
Boerne and Alamo Heights are just ahead of Champion and New Braunfels, which are 4-3-1 through the first round.
Kinsley Sawyer tallied the only goal of the match Tuesday night after she finished on a corner kick from Mahaley Merkins.
The Sawyer goal broke a 0-0 stalemate and gave Boerne the lead, which they held until the end.
Varsity Boys
The Boerne High boys end the first round of district in second place after the Greyhounds defeated New Braunfels Tuesday at BISD Stadium, 4-0.
Shae Gonzales recorded a hat trick and scored 3 goals and Shane Garcia added the other.
BHS is 8-2-1 overall and ends the first round of 26-5A play at 6-1-1. Only Pieper is ahead of the Greyhounds in the district standings at 8-0.
New Braunfels is right behind the Hounds at 5-2-1.
The Greyhounds were home Friday to kick off the second round against Wagner and visit Kerrville Tivy Tuesday.
