Girls knock off Warriors, BHS boys unbeaten streak comes to an end

Boerne High continued district soccer play last Friday and the Greyhound challenged the first-place varsity teams in the girls and boys standings – Pieper.

There were mixed results for the Greyhounds as the BHS girls handed the Lady Warriors their first district loss of the season, while the Boerne boys had an amazing streak end at the hands of the Warriors.

Boerne takes on New Braunfels Tuesday to close out the first round and then kicks off second-round action Friday vs. Wagner.

Varsity Girls

The Boerne girls caught a big fish last Friday night when the Lady Greyhounds defeated Pieper 1-0.

It’s Pieper’s first loss in district and leaves them at 6-1-1 in 26-5A.

BHS is 9-5 overall and 4-3 in district. The Lady Greyhounds closed out the first round Tuesday at New Braunfels and then visit Wagner Friday to open the second round as they play both matches on the road this week.

Sophia Namvar tallied the only goal in last Friday’s defensive battle at Boerne ISD Stadium. It broke open a 0-0 match 24 minutes into the second half.

Boerne, Alamo Heights, Champion and New Braunfels all have four wins entering Tuesday’s matches, so that should make the second round very interesting.

Varsity Boys

Pieper was able to do what no other boys soccer team has been able to do in Boerne’s last 53 matches and that is beat the Greyhounds in a district contest. The Warriors defeated the BHS boys last Friday, 4-2. The tough part for BHS is that it was tied 2-2 with just over two minutes left and they gave up two late goals.

It’s Boerne’s first district loss and leaves them at 5-1-1 in 26-5A. The Greyhounds are 7-2-1 overall and host two matches this week.

They were home Tuesday to face New Braunfels and face Wagner Friday at BISD Stadium to begin second- round league play.

Last Friday’s loss is the Boerne boys’ first in district soccer since 2020 and stops their unbeaten streak at 53 straight in league play.

There was one tie in there against Smithson Valley on Jan. 24, so the Greyhounds went 52-0-1 during that stretch before last Friday’s loss.
