Champion boys soccer thumps Thunderbirds for first win

Lady Chargers pick up district victory at home

The Boerne Champion varsity soccer teams were in action last Friday against Wagner and both Charger squads dominated the Thunderbirds to pick up district victories.

Champion closed out the first round of district Tuesday and opens the second round Friday as both the girls and boys vie for playoff spots.

Varsity Boys

After coming close on several occasions, the Boerne Champion boys soccer team finally recorded its first win of the season.

Champion was at Wagner last Friday and defeated the Thunderbirds to record its first victory in 2025 in a big way.

The Chargers defeated Wagner 6-2 to stand at 1-5-5 overall and 1-2-4 in district.

Champion was home for two matches this week and closed out the first round of 26-5A action Tuesday at home vs. Kerrville Tivy and open the second round Friday vs. Veterans Memorial.

Noah Umbreit recorded a hat trick last Friday and tallied 3 goals, while Bentley McCool scored 2 goals and Luka Hahn added a goal.

Varsity Girls

The Lady Chargers hosted Wagner Friday and recorded the 5-0 win over the Lady Thunderbirds.

Champion is 5-6 overall and 4-3 in district. The Chargers were at Kerrville Tivy Tuesday and are on the road again Friday at Veterans Memorial.

In last Friday’s contest, Champion was leading 2-0 at halftime and then added three second-half goals to close it out.

Last Friday’s win was Champion’s third in their last four matches and their second shutout during that span.

The Lady Chargers have four shutouts this year and three have come in district play against Wagner, Boerne High and Veterans Memorial.
