BISD boys basketball teams suffer road losses last Friday

Both the Boerne ISD boys basketball teams were on the road and played district games as they wind down their 2024-25 seasons.

The Greyhounds were at Wagner and the Champion boys visited Veterans Memorial last Friday and both lost to their opponents.

Boerne and Champion were both home Tuesday to close out the regular season.

While the BISD schools are out of the playoffs, there was still a lot of jockeying going on in 26-5A entering Tuesday’s finale.

Wagner has the district title locked up regardless of what happened Tuesday. They were 14-1 and a win or loss didn’t affect their standing in 26-5A.

New Braunfels is done with the regular season and finished at 11-5, while Alamo Heights (10-5), Veterans Memorial (9-6) and Pieper (9-6) are jumbled up in the district standings.

Heights, Veterans and Pieper could all finish at 10 wins, but only two would advance and they would have to break the tie somehow.

Alamo Heights played Veterans Memorial Tuesday and if they won, they’ll take second and jump past New Braunfels since they swept the Unicorns this year.

Boerne Champion

The Chargers were on the road last Friday at Veterans Memorial and lost to the Patriots team, which is fighting for its playoff lives.

Veterans Memorial beat the Chargers 46-39.

Champion is 22-12 overall and 5-10 in district.

Veterans Memorial was up 12-8 at the end of the first quarter and then had a good second stanza after outscoring the Chargers, 15-6, for the 27-14 halftime lead.

Champion played better in the second half and outscored the Patriots 25-19, but couldn’t make up the double-digit halftime deficit.

The Chargers outscored Veterans Memorial in the third, 14-9, and again in the fourth, 11-10.

Boerne High

The Boerne boys were on the road last Friday and were tripped up by the district- leading Thunderbirds, 82-45.

BHS has dropped three in a row in 26-5A and is 5-10 in district.

The Greyhounds are 18-13 overall and tied with Boerne Champion for sixth place in 26-5A.

Boerne hosted Kerrville Tivy Tuesday to close out the regular season and was looking to even their season series with the Antlers, who defeated the Greyhounds in the first round after they heated up from the outside.
