Boerne Council incumbent draws familiar opponent

At least one of eight declared candidates in area council and school board races has drawn an opponent in the May 3 general election.

Boerne City Councilwoman Sharon Wright will again face Joe Bateman for the right to represent District 2 on council.

Incumbent Wright prevailed by 21 votes, 252-231, when the two met in the 2022 election. The stage is now set for a rematch in May.

Mayor Frank Ritchie and District 4 Councilman Bret Bunker remain without opposition as of noon Friday, with one week to go for candidates to file.

In Fair Oaks Ranch, three candidates stand unopposed at this time.

Seeking re-election are Place 3 Councilman Ruben Olvera and Place 5 Councilman Scott Parker. Place 4’s Laura Koerner has termed out; resident Dale Pearson filed to fill that vacancy and remains without opposition as well.

In the Boerne Independent School District, two board seats are included on the May ballot.

Running for re-election is Place 5 Board President Garrett Wilson. Having filed for the Place 4 seat currently held by Trustee Maritza Gonzalez-Cooper is Boerne resident Sarah Faulkenberry. As of noon Friday, Gonzalez-Cooper had not filed for re-election, and Wilson had drawn no opponent.

The final day for candidates to file in all races is Feb. 14.
