Boerne High’s successful football season in 2024 led to the Greyhounds claiming 24 spots on this year’s All-District 13-5A DII first and second teams.

Four of the Greyhounds – Hank Hendrix, Hutson Hendrix, Zach Freasier and Logan Schram – earned superlative awards, while two more BHS players – Ty Bush and Brooks Perez – claimed two spots each and were listed on offense and defense, with Perez earning first-team honors on both sides of the ball.

As far as superlatives, sophomore Hank Hendrix was the Offensive Player of the Year, senior Hutson Hendrix was the co-Defensive Player of the Year, sophomore Zach Freasier was voted the co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year, while senior Logan Schram was named the unanimous Offensive Lineman of the Year.

On offense, junior Jeff Morrison was a first-team running back, senior Brooks Perez was a unanimous firstteam wide receiver, junior Ben Bays was a first-team tight end, seniors Keegan Fisher and Logan Fritcher were both named first team offensive line and senior Ty Bush was a first-team punter.

Senior Adam Hicks was a second-team running back, senior Matt Garrison and junior Eli Nikolas were named second-team wide receivers, while seniors Hudson McNew and Werner Wieboldt were both named second-team offensive line.

On defense, senior Braden Bays was a unanimous first-team defensive line pick, seniors Jaxon Baize and Brooks Perez were both first-team defensive backs. Seniors Cole Durham and Townes Oviedo were named to the second-team defensive line, senior Ryan Hooper and Ty Bush were voted to the second team as linebackers, Jake Perez was a second-team defensive back and sophomore Diego Jimenez was named second-team kicker.

Boerne High had another great season and claimed its second regional title in three seasons, the first as a 4A in 2022 and now as a 5A.

The Hounds were second in district (5-1) behind Alamo Heights (6-0) but went five rounds deep in the postseason, one round further than the Mules.

BHS beat Corpus Christi Carroll, Edcouch-Elsa, district foe Victoria West and then defeated Corpus Christi Miller for the Region IV-5A DII title in the Alamodome.

That put them in the state semifinals where they were beaten by eventual champs Richmond Randle in Waco at McLane Stadium to finish the year at 11-4.

The 2024 season ended up being the final one for Che Hendrix after seven years with the Greyhounds.

Hendrix recently accepted a coaching position with the University of Arkansas.
