Champion, BHS boys hoops teams in action

Both Boerne ISD boys basketball teams were in action Tuesday night with road games.

The Chargers and Greyhounds are playing for pride at this point since playoffs are no longer a possibility for either.

Champion was at Kerrville Tivy and won, while the Greyhounds were at New Braunfels and fell to the Unicorns.

There are two games left on the schedule for both.

Boerne Champion

Any win against Kerrville Tivy is a good win for a BISD school and that was the case Tuesday night for the Chargers.

Champion’s 63-45 victory over the Antlers is their first in the second round and snaps a six-game skid in 26-5A.

It leaves the Chargers at 5-9 in district and 22-11 overall. They are tied with the Greyhounds for sixth place in 26-5A.

Champion has two left on the schedule and visited Veterans Memorial Friday. The Patriots still have a shot at a playoff spot at 8-6, but are in fifth place with Champion and Alamo Heights left on the schedule.

Wagner has won the district at 13-1, New Braunfels is second at 10-5, Pieper and Alamo Heights are 9-5, while Veterans Memorial is 8-6 and still has a shot.

After playing at Vets on Friday, the Chargers close out the regular season Tuesday at home against Smithson Valley.

Boerne High

The Greyhounds were at New Braunfels and lost to the Unicorns, 85-66.

Boerne High is 5-9 in district and 18-12 overall. The Hounds visited district champs Wagner on Friday and then close out the regular season Tuesday at home against Kerrville Tivy.

In Tuesday’s game, Noah Sanchez led BHS with 24 points, Nic Hernandez was also in double figures with 12 points, while Hank Hendrix and Casen Hoegemeyer both netted 8.

Julien Hartman chipped in with 6, Slade Salinas scored 5 and Will Traylor added 3.

Hendrix had team-high honors in rebounds and assists with 9 boards and 3 assists, while Hutson Hendrix and Hernandez came up with 2 steals each. For Friday’s results, look in the Wednesday edition of the Boerne Star.
