BOERNE — The George W. Kendall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is proud to announce that Jan Carr, president of the Genealogical Society of Kendall County, has been awarded the esteemed DAR Community Service Award for her exceptional contributions to the community.

Carr’s dedication to genealogy research and community service has profoundly impacted Boerne, making her an invaluable resource for individuals seeking to uncover their family histories.

As the backbone of the Family History Place, she has spent countless hours helping locals navigate their genealogical journeys, earning a well-deserved reputation as the community’s “go-to” expert for tracing missing ancestors.

In the past year alone, Carr has generously shared her expertise through numerous educational programs. She has led genealogy classes for the Boerne Genealogical Society of Kendall County (GSKC), the genealogy club at Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs and local school groups.

Her instruction on utilizing genealogy websites, such as FamilySearch, has empowered many to connect with their roots.

Beyond her individual contributions, Jan has played a crucial role in preserving local history. She was instrumental in coordinating training sessions with the George W. Kendall Chapter to enhance the use of Find A Grave in collaboration with the Comfort Historical Society and the Comfort Cemetery.

This ongoing initiative ensures the accurate documentation of biographies, GPS locations and familial connections in Comfort Cemetery, preserving these invaluable records for future generations.

“Jan’s tireless dedication to genealogy and her unwavering commitment to helping others make her a true gem in our community,” said Beulah Hughston, Regent of the George W. Kendall Chapter. “She embodies the spirit of the DAR Community Service Award, and we are honored to recognize her outstanding efforts.”

The DAR Community Service Award is a prestigious honor presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to their local communities through volunteerism and public service.

Carr’s work exemplifies the values of the award, and her efforts continue to enrich the lives of many in Boerne and beyond.
