The Geneva School of Boerne basketball teams hosted Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Academy Friday on Senior Night and all the seniors for the Eagles helped guide the girls and boys teams to wins before the home crowd.

Both victories for the Eagles were lopsided and pushed the Geneva teams to 10-0 in district.

For the girls, it clinched the district title, while the boys are still battling for the league championship.

Geneva won last Friday’s contest by 50 points, 77-27, and their 10-0 mark gives them this year’s district title. The Eagles are 24-4 overall and hosted Gloria Deo Academy in a non-district game Tuesday.

They’ll close out the regular season on the road at Castle Hills on Friday and still have the make-up game with Holy Cross left to play after it was postponed because of the weather. The Holy Cross contest is looking like it’ll take place on Feb. 11.

In last Friday’s game, the Eagles were leading 20-8 after one and then dropped in 29 in the second for the 49-20 halftime lead after they outscored the Angels in the second, 29-12.

Geneva finished out the second half with 17 and 11 points in the third and fourth quarters, while the Angels only mustered up 5 and 2 points over the last two periods.

Maegan Riebel led the team with 25 points, Madeline Egbert added 15 points and Kyra Petty scored 14 as three Eagles were in double figures.

Morgan Howard finished with 9 points, Grace Detterick added 8 points, Sopris Oglesby had 4 and Reese Smith netted 2.

Petty made it a double-double with 11 assists and pulled down 6 rebounds, while Detterick also snagged 6 boards.

Riebel and Egbert both came up with 5 steals.

Varsity Boys

The Geneva boys also picked up a lopsided victory over visiting C.C. Incarnate Word, 81-29.

Geneva is 10-0 in district and 28-4 overall. While the Geneva girls basketball team picked up a non-district game for Tuesday, the boys are off and won’t return to action until Friday when they visit Castle Hills.

After that, the Eagles visit Holy Cross to close out district play and the Knights are one game behind Geneva at 9-1, with their only loss coming at the hands of Geneva.

When the Eagles do play Holy Cross, it should be for the district title if both teams win their games leading up to that contest.

Geneva had a 16-0 start to last Friday’s game and ended the first quarter with a 32-2 lead. They cruised from there.

“I’m so happy we were able to celebrate the seniors with the win,” Geneva boys coach Julius McNeal said.

Colton Lutz led all scorers with 27, Wyatt Bruss finished with 20, Jake Roberson added 16, while Jack Walker Harden and Harlen Mangum both scored 9.
