As part of her being named the Gatorade Texas Girls Cross Country Player of the Year, Boerne Champion’s Elizabeth Leachman received a grant from Gatorade to donate to a social impact partner.
Leachman said she decided to donate her grant money to the National Scholastic Athletic Foundation.
To date, the Gatorade Player of the Year program has provided more than $5.6 million in grants to winners across more than 2,000 organizations.
This is the second year in a row for Leachman to be named the Gatorade Texas Girls Cross Country Player of the Year and the talented junior said this one means a lot to her because of all the ups and downs she faced last fall with a couple of injuries and respiratory issues.
“This award is definitely special because this cross-country season was full of ups and downs and uncertainty and helps remind me of what I was able to overcome with the help of my friends and family,” she said. Leachman defended her Foot Locker national title, took third at the Nike Cross Nationals, defended her 5A state cross-country title and competed at the U.S. Olympic Trials last summer, just to name a few of her accomplishments in 2024.
