Geneva hoops teams sweep NBCA

One game was a blowout and the other was close, but the bottom line for the Geneva School of Boerne basketball teams is that they swept New Braunfels Christian Academy Friday night in Boerne.

And on another positive night, it was also Hoops for Heartland Night and the Eagles collected money and other essential items for the Heartland Children’s Home for medically challenged children.

Both basketball teams remain undefeated in league play as they begin to wind down the second round. They were both on the road Tuesday at Corpus Christi John Paul II and host Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Friday.

Varsity Girls

The Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team remained unbeaten in district play after the Eagles defeated New Braunfels Christian Academy last Friday at home, 94-13.

Geneva is 22-4 overall and 8-0 in district after Friday’s lopsided win.

The Eagles were up 31-1 at the end of one and it was basically over at that point. In the second, they outscored New Braunfels Christian Academy 31-5 for the 62-6 halftime lead.

Geneva tallied 32 points in the second half and gave up 7 to NBCA.

Maegan Riebel has hit 40 points twice this year and came close to that again on Friday after she finished with 39 points.

She scored 40 and 43 in games earlier this season. The 43 set a school record that was broken a few days later by Wyatt Bruss with 47.

Riebel tallied her 39 on 14 of 19 shooting and went 13 for 14 from 2-point range and 10 of 12 at the free-throw line to go with 1 of 5 shooting from the 3-point line.

Kyra Petty had a strong game with 16 points and 13 assists for a double-double, along with 8 rebounds.

Madeline Egbert and Morgan Howard both finished with 8 points, Grace Detterick added 7 points, Sopris Oglesby scored 6, Payton Boles had 4, and Reese Smith, Carlyle Harden and Amelia Morgan all chipped in with 2 points as 10 Eagles scored in the game.

Detterick snagged 11 rebounds, while Petty and Riebel both came up with 5 steals.

Varsity Boys

The Geneva School of Boerne boys were tested by NBCA but held on for the 65-62 win.

The Eagles are 8-0 in district play and are 26-5 overall.

Geneva was in control for most of the game but a late push by NBCA made it interesting, however the Eagles held on down the stretch for the 3-point victory.
