Auditions are scheduled in January for the Omnia Youth Chorale, a newly formed youth chorus based in Boerne. The group’s goal is to connect young singers ages 9-18 living in the Hill Country and greater surrounding areas of San Antonio.
Omnia is defined as fully, completely, thoroughly, entirely all together.
“Singing and engaging with other artists transforms a child’s life,” said Rebecca Morgan, founding member and co-director of the chorale. “Omnia was founded on the belief that singing is more than notes and technique, it’s about the whole artist.”
Morgan, along with two other San Antonio music educators, BriAnne Woodward and Debby Heitzke, said they have dreamed about forming the group. Morgan said the leadership of the new chorale is committed to connecting young artists with local performing artists to create, not just to perform.
“Inspiring young people to their greatest potential is the goal of Omnia Youth Chorale,” Woodward said.
The first collaborative guest artist is scheduled to be Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, San Antonio’s current poet laureate, who will present two workshops with the Omnia singers about blackout poetry. She will also help the group create new pieces of art from lyrics they are singing, information in a press release stated.
“Singing Our Stories” is a one-of-a-kind concert experience scheduled for Sunday, April 3, 2022, with no cost for admission, the information stated.
The Omnia Youth Chorale is based out of Boerne and will conduct rehearsals on Sunday afternoons at St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Bandera Road. Audition dates are January 9, 16 and 23. To schedule an audition, visit www.omniayc.org.
