We announce the passing of William “Bill” E. Pope, who died May 17, 2025, at the age of 75 in Boerne, Texas, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Bill was a devoted husband to Ruth A. Buchanan Pope for more than 50 years, sharing a life full of love, laughter and cherished memories. Together, they raised a family rooted in respect, storytelling and shared joys — from games and tools to the thrill of gambling.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Roy T. and Jean C. Pope, siblings Marjorie and David Pope, and daughter-in-law Stephanie Pope. He is survived by two brothers, Thomas and Robert Pope; one sister, Pat (Darryl) Miller; and David’s widow, Jan.

Bill is also survived by two sons, Christopher Pope, and Todd (Lorraine) Pope; one daughter, Amanda (Dan) Rojana; one grandson, Connor Rojana, and eight granddaughters, Madelyn Rojana, and Misty Dawn, Jenna, Madison, Larrina, Keana, Kendra and Maya Pope.

A master of tools, games and gambling, Bill was known for his attention to detail, his “drill instructor” voice and his sharp wit. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer advice or share a story, leaving a lasting impact on his family and countless “adopted” neighborhood kids.

Bill also leaves behind more than 35 nieces and nephews, along with many great-nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. May 30, 2025, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Pavilion 2, in San Antonio, Texas, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
