SUMMER OFF TO A ROUSING START

Monday, June 2, marked the library’s kick-off of our summer programming based on the theme, “Color Our World.” It has indeed been a colorful week for all ages.

Scores of children had a blast with Mr. Twisty and his balloon art, and they got a big kick out of meeting Rosie the python as part of our weekly Colorful Critters program.

For those of you lamenting that you missed out on the snake, she’ll be back on Tuesday (June 10) with a sheep friend.

Teens and adults enjoyed learning how to make tie-dyed book bags using bubbles, and as part of our Lattes at the Library, adults learned about Native American rock painting.

PROGRAMS FOR ALL

During the second week of our summer fun, our visitors can continue enjoying our colorful programming. On Monday at 6 p.m., teens and adults can take part in a “Magic: The Gathering Commander Tournament.” This event celebrates the world's first trading card game, which was created more than 30 years ago in 1993. With over 50 million players as of two years ago, the game has evolved into both a tabletop and digital phenomenon.

Little ones can come to story times on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings each week.

On Tuesday, older teens and adults can access their creativity by doing a craft while listening to a true-crime podcast.

Lattes at the Library will take place at 10 a.m. June 11 with the topic being “Theory of Color,” presented by Lyn Belisle.

Set for Friday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., is “Color Our Board” game night for teens and adults. On Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., patrons will get the opportunity to meet with children’s author Lorri VanLeuven.

What a wonderful week of programming — and it’s all free. Please check out our web calendar at boernelibrary. org to plan your week.

LIVE! AT THE LIBRARY The Jesse Stratten Band makes an encore performance June 19 in the Heath Public Library amphitheater stage starting at 7 p.m.

Jesse’s band plays a unique blend of alternative country and Americana. Listen to music from their latest album, “The Sounds and the Colors,” along with other fan favorites.

The library offers a monthly concert as part of our “Live! at the Library” series every third Thursday of each month. Be sure to bring a picnic dinner and comfy seating.

PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE

The library has kicked off its strategic planning process to better serve the community and visitors from afar. We are working with the FastForward Libraries consultants to develop a plan that will last for three years.

We’ve already conducted a survey, and the next step is to talk with different members of the community through focus groups and interviews. To make sure we have the best plan possible, we will explore library trends as well.

The completed plan should be making its debut in September of this year.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARIES

The library celebrated two anniversaries this week. Library Director Natalie Shults has been here one year, with her start date being June 3 of last year. On Wednesday, June 4, the library made note of the fact we’ve been at the Patrick Heath Public Library for 14 years For those of you who are relatively new to the area, we used to be called the Boerne Public Library and were located in the Dienger Building by Main Plaza. How many of you were here the day we opened our current facility? It was a funfilled, exhausting day full of crowds who wanted to check out the new space and trade out their old library cards for new ones.

LIBRARY CLOSURE

On Thursday, June 19, the library will be closed in observance of Juneteenth; however, we will still host the “Live! at the Library” concert mentioned above.
