Boerne Champion's Julian Navarrete threw three touchdowns - including a Hail Mary to end the first half - and ran for another score to led the Chargers past Laredo United South, 31-17, Friday at BISD Stadium in the season opener for both teams.
Navarrete, just a sophomore was making his first start on the varsity, threw to three different receivers and had a hand in all four TDs to help Champion start at 1-0. They are home Friday to host Medina Valley.
Geneva School of Boerne
The Eagles tangled with SACS and were tamed by the Lions Friday in Boerne, 37-28. Geneva is home again Friday to host La Pryor as they look for their first win.
Comfort High
Comfort never even got to the opening kickoff after lightening hit the Brackettville area where the Bobcats were hoping to get in a game. The weather never cleared so it was called by about 8 p.m. CHS is home Friday in their home and season opener against Dilley.
Boerne High
The Greyhounds fell to Pieper in their season opener Thursday, 38-36. Boerne was up 34-25 early in the fourth but the Warriors tallied two fourth-quarter touchdowns, while the Pieper defense came up with two turnovers on Boerne's last two drives to turn away BHS.
Boerne is 0-1 and hosts Laredo United Thursday at BISD Stadium, 7 p.m.
