Boerne Little League wins; next game is
The Boerne Little League bats were as hot as the Texas sun in August after they slammed three home runs in Thursday’s opener at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Boerne or the Southwest team, defeated the Mid-Atlantic champs, Pennsylvania 9-0.
Boerne is off until Monday and plays at 6 p.m., on ESPN.
With a 2-0 advantage, Caden Guffey smacked a solo shot in the fourth inning for the 3-0 lead.
In the fifth, Kaleb Christ was hit by a pitch and later scored to make it 4-0 and that’s when Boerne started to pull away.
Julian Hurst, Gray Collins and Cooper Hastings all reached to load the bases and then Kole Newson brought them all in with one swing after he recorded a grand slam for the 8-0 lead.
Later in the inning, Doc Mogford blasted a solo shot for the 9-0 lead as Boerne tallied six runs in the frame to blow it open.
Guffey and Hurst combined for a shutout on the hill. Guffey started and went 2 innings, fanned 3 and gave up 2 hits.
Hurst entered in the third and struck out 10 of the 12 batters he faced and didn’t give up a hit.
